Le misteriose montagne di Giapeto.
Un altro affascinante mistero avvolge una luna di Saturno, Giapeto. La luna di Saturno, visitata già nel 2004 dalla sonda Cassini, mostra possedere un crinale di roccia alquanto controverso.Queste montagne, alte circa il doppio del Monte Everest , secondo alcuni scienziati della Brown University di Providence, potrebbero essersi formate da detriti cosmici "piovuti" sulla luna . Inizialmente si riteneva che il crinale potesse essere la conseguenza di attività tettonica, ma da una analisi più approfondita delle immagini,condotta da Erika Lopez Garcia, si è aperta la possibilità che Giapeto ,in passato, possedesse degli anelli di detriti che orbitavano attorno al satellite, oggi ormai precipitati sulla superfice della luna.
